FAMILIES OF CHILDREN WITH AUTISM AND RELATED DISABILITIES ARE OFTEN OVERLOOKED AND UNDERSERVED
To create as stress-free of an environment as possible for parents/caregivers of children with Autism and Developmental Disabilities. By providing essential needs, sharing experiences, and giving support, we will accomplish our mission.
Our vision is to bridge the gap between the funds/benefits some families receive and what they need. We will spread Autism Awareness and support the backbone of the child with Autism, which are the parents and caregivers.
AuSome Hand Up, Inc. is determined to provide much needed social, financial, clothing, sensory and other related assistance to families of children with these particular needs.
Katrina Shellman
In 2018, when two year-old, Asiah, received an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis, her mother was devastated. Katrina took a little time to digest this new information and soon after, got to work! Frantically, using all referrals and seeking every therapist necessary for her child, mom decided to take action immediately. As a result, her daughter is improving at a steady pace, thanks to early intervention services.
This AuSome Mom soon realized she could have used a “point of reference” on the long road ahead. After not finding one, Ms. Shellman decided to chronicle their experiences to assist others on a YouTube channel: Autism Journey 2016. In addition, while connecting with other moms at therapy visits, Asiah’s mother began a peer-led support group called, “Coffee with Moms.” Finally, after forming bonds with Maysa Cespedes and others like her, the non-profit organization, AuSome Hand Up, Inc. was created.
